Momentum PLUS

1. Momentum PLUS will begin with a 1-hour orientation session with your editor and the other Momentum PLUS writers. This Zoom session will allow you to meet ‘face-to-face,’ review the submission process, create clear goals and expectations, and establish a level of comfort and familiarity with your editor.

2. You are then invited to submit 3 pieces of writing (one 1000-word + two 2000-word), one per month (Feb/Mar/Apr), for a total of 5000 words.

   These can be 3 stand-alone pieces, 3 sections of a longer work, or resubmissions of the same piece (if you want to incorporate earlier feedback). You may also choose to submit one single submission of 5000 words.

   Your pieces of writing can be whatever you choose. They may be inspired by the prompts/exercises from the course, but they might also be excerpts from a longer work, something you wrote a while ago, or something you were inspired to write for no particular reason. Anything goes.

3. For each submission, you will receive an editorial summary as well as marginal notes and suggestions.

4. You may schedule one 30-minute Zoom meeting with your editor for an in-depth discussion of your edits.

1. The deadlines for submission are: February 20, March 20, April 20. If you are making a single submission of 5000 words, the deadline for that submission is March 31.

   You do not need to submit your pieces in any order. While you may prefer to start with a 1000-word piece and save the 2000-word pieces for later, you are not required to do so.

   You are always welcome to submit your writing earlier than the deadlines.

2. Your editor will provide their review within 5-7 business days, depending on the length of the submission. (A longer submission of 5000 words could take up to 10 days.)

3. Your 30-minute meeting with your editor can take place anytime before April 30 and can pertain to any of your submissions. You may schedule this meeting directly with your editor at any point.

4. In the interest of creating accountability and deadlines that support accomplishment, there are no extensions or refunds for this package.

5. Please think of these deadlines and timelines as your BEST FRIENDS. They will keep you on task and writing, even and especially when your inner critic/perfectionist says you can’t do it or need more time. ;)

We have carefully selected two types of professional editors to participate in this project. These editors specialise in working with:

1. Emerging writers (little to no publishing history)

2. Experienced writers (having some short pieces published and/or being a finalist for a contest constitutes ‘experience’).

You may select your level of experience after you complete your purchase.

PLEASE NOTE: Out of sensitivity to the material some writers are working with, it seems relevant to mention that one of our editors for experienced writers is a (lovely) man. An award-winning memoirist, novelist, journalist and children’s book author, he is also open to working with people working in any of those genres. If you would prefer not to work with a man, you may state that on your selection form.

Momentum PLUS includes all of the offerings of the Momentum program:

1. Alumni Hour x 2: This is a special Q&A session exclusively for alumni, where questions can focus on the 'next stages' of writing: revising, specifics about 'the container' or 'skywriting' of one's writing, submitting to publications, etc.

2.AlumniAussie/Kiwi Hour x 2, a special Q&A session for alumni in the southern hemisphere.

3. Special Workshop x 3: Alison will host three invited guests to offer special workshops on different aspects of the writing and publishing process: from finding more poetry in your prose to pitching and submitting to magazines.

4. Author Spotlight Sessions & Special Events: Readings and discussions with celebrated authors of different types of memoir and winners of writing contests.

5. AlumniWriters Unite!: Checking in with fellow writers, exchanging ideas, and forming writing partnerships and groups all provide great momentum!

6. Facebook Group: Renewed access to the Memoir Writing Ink private Facebook group, where you can post writing for moderated peer review, learn how to offer genuinely helpful feedback, and hone your own editorial eye.

7. Alison’s twice-weekly email encouragement as you move through each chapter, as if you were taking the course all over again.
