In-Person Memoir Writing Workshops

After years of online teaching, I’m delighted to offer a couple of in-person workshops in two of my favourite places!

WORKSHOP FORMAT

There are two different workshop formats. You are welcome to register for one or both workshops.

1. An interactive ‘lecture-style’ workshop for 18 people [see below for details]. No application required.
2. A ‘masterclass-style’ workshop for 8 people [see below for details]. Application required.

1. A 1-day 'interactive Memoir Writing Ink' workshop offering talks and writing sessions on the essentials of memoir, including a deep dive into the concepts of the 'container,' 'sky writing,' and transformation. In addition to exploring some of the critical elements of memoir, there will also be an opportunity to create and share new writing.

10 am - 4 pm, with one hour for lunch. Maximum 18 people. Welcome one and all!

Cost (including a catered lunch, coffee/tea throughout the day): CA$250 / US$200

2. An intimate 2-day masterclass focussing on individual writing samples and the process of revisions. We will spend the mornings examining a short (500-word) writing sample from each person, identifying and discussing its strengths, as well as the possibilities for improving and strengthening the writing. Participants will leave with a detailed written critique of their writing. Afternoons will be spent looking at elements of craft and in group discussions about the nature and arc of each person's larger writing project.

10 am - 4 pm each day (2 days) with one hour for lunch. Maximum 8 people. Application required.

Cost (including a catered lunch, coffee/tea throughout the day): CA$950 / US$750.

You are welcome to attend one or both workshops. The cost to participate in both workshops is CA$1200 / US$950.

2. TO APPLY for the 2-day (Wed/Thu) workshop in Vancouver, click HERE. You will be asked to upload a short (250-word max) sample of your writing. No masterpieces required! Just a short snippet of your writing is enough.

If you would like to attend both workshops, the cost is CA$1200 / US$950. Please reserve your spot in the 1-day (Tuesday) workshop first, then apply for the 2-day (Wed/Thu) workshop. If you are not accepted into the masterclass workshop and wish to withdraw from the 1-day workshop, you may request a full refund.
