Yes! If the timing is not right when you first enroll, you may choose to pause your course access and begin at a later date. Because registration is open on a rolling basis throughout the year, new students are always joining, and everyone moves through the course at their own pace.
Please note that pauses are only available shortly after purchase, before you begin moving through the course. Unfortunately, we are not able to pause access partway through your course timeline.
Our Support Team can arrange a pause for you. Please note that you will not have access to the course materials or events while your enrollment is paused.

Your account has been set up for you using the email address you used to purchase the course.
To access the course dashboard, you will need to set up a password. You will have received a welcome email from the course platform host, Thinkific, asking you to set your password using the prompts in the email.
If you do not see the email in your inbox, please check your junk or spam folder. You may also search for an email from noreply@notify.thinkific.com to locate it.
If you do not find it in your junk or spam folder, please follow the prompts HERE). Remember, the email address you used to purchase the course is the one required for signing in.
Once you have logged in for the first time, please begin at the ‘Start Here’ course.
-
Once you arrive on your student dashboard HERE, be sure to click ‘My Dashboard’ in the top right corner of the screen.
You should see a Start Here course, a Memoir Writing Ink course, a Live Events & Replays course, and a Bonus Offerings course.
To get to the course content for the first time, please begin by clicking the ‘Start Course’ words at the ‘Start Here’ course box. (Or, ‘Resume Course’ if you have accessed it already.)
Please note that the ‘See Overview’ button only takes you to a Table of Contents, but you cannot access the course from there.
-
If using a laptop or desktop, once you are in the course (click Start Course or Resume Course on the course you’d like to access), the navigation menu will appear on the left. Clicking the arrows beside each chapter title will open the lessons below. Clicking on the lesson titles will bring the course content into the main viewing window.
If using a phone/tablet, the navigation menu is found in the three little lines in the top right-hand corner. Clicking the titles will populate the lessons, and clicking the lessons will generate the content.

Because the course is hosted online, occasional issues with videos, text display, or scrolling can happen due to browser settings, device compatibility, privacy settings, or internet connection speed.
Fortunately, most problems can be resolved with one of the quick fixes below. While we may not always be able to identify the exact cause immediately, these solutions resolve the majority of access problems.
Quick Fixes:
Refresh the page by clicking the circular refresh arrow in your browser window. This often resolves the issue immediately.
Clear your browser's cache. This removes the stored data that might be causing the page to misbehave, and is often the culprit!
Try opening the course in an incognito/private browsing window, or use a different browser (for example, Safari instead of Chrome).
Switching your device to full-screen mode can sometimes help.
Occasionally, shutting down your device (phone, laptop, tablet, desktop) and restarting will also resolve the issue. Or simply leaving the course for a short time and returning later resolves the issue as well.
If you continue to experience difficulties after trying these steps, please contact us at support@alisonwearing.com, and we’ll do our best to help.
-
If using a laptop or desktop, going full screen is usually just a matter of clicking the ‘double diagonal arrow’ icon in the top right-hand corner of the lesson.
If using a phone or tablet, the text will open in full screen automatically; however, to get a video full screen, you will need to tap the video and click the box with the duplicated corners near the bottom right-hand corner of the video box.
-
The assignments (remember: not mandatory at all!) can be found within the chapters and lessons, and you will discover them as you move through the course. If, however, you would like a sneak peek, each chapter has an overview at the beginning, which will highlight the lessons, readings, and assignments for that chapter.
All of the assignments have also been gathered into a single document. In the Bonus Offerings course, please click the down arrow to open the ‘Course Materials (downloadable PDFs)’ lesson and then click on ‘List of Exercises’ to gain access to download the exercises. Feel free to print this list once you’ve finished the course.

Once a month, you are invited to attend the Monthly Live Session. The dates/times are shown in the calendar of the ‘Live Events & Replays’ course. The Live Events are a wonderful opportunity to engage with Alison and to connect with fellow writers.
These live teachings take a variety of forms. Sometimes Alison will offer a (lively!) Q&A session. Sometimes, she invites guests (an editor, poet, journalist, or agent) to share their experience and expertise. And other times, we offer an opportunity to connect with others in the Memoir Writing Ink program to form writing partnerships or writing groups.
These sessions are approximately 60 minutes long. And not to worry if you miss one, replays of the teaching sessions and Q&As are always made available for 30 days after the live event, within your 12-week access period.
-
Impossible! Once you register, you’ll have lifetime access (held for you as long as Memoir Writing Ink continues turning its pages!) to these materials and be free to go at your own pace well beyond our time together.
The 12-week timeline refers to the weekly unveiling of chapters, and it is a suggested pace only. You are welcome to move through the materials and return to them whenever you wish, and to take as long as you like.
-
You have lifetime access to the course materials, held for you as long as Memoir Writing Ink continues turning its pages.
The only thing you lose at the end of the 12-week timeline of the course is access to the live sessions and replays, and any community groups.
If you would like to extend your access to the live events, you may do so HERE, with our Extension option.
“This course is the best investment of time and money I’ve made in a long, long while! Alison’s positivity is inspiring and motivating, and her concrete advice has helped me see how to shape my own writing in ways I never would have discovered on my own.
Although I’ve technically finished the course, I’m not ready to put it behind me. My plan is to go back and do it all again, reinforcing all the tips and picking up the exercises I skipped. Thank you so much for every part of this wonderful experience!”
““I can almost GUARANTEE that Memoir Writing, ink. will be the most worthwhile investment of funds, time, brainpower, and creativity that you can imagine. Whether you end up writing a full-blown memoir, dabbling in your journal, or simply continuing to read beautiful writing, you will do so with powerful tools, a new perspective, a smile on your face and in your writerly heart. Promise.””
