Writing Mentorships
It’s a big world out there in the writing industry!
And having a mentor can make all the difference.
A mentor can listen deeply to your stories, offer guidance and expertise, accompany you through challenges and obstacles, and cheer you on from the sidelines,
WHAT IS A MENTORSHIP?
A 3-month committed relationship with a writing mentor to help you reach your unique writing goals in a safe and personable way. The mentorship is curated to fit your writing dreams and address your challenges and is flexible enough to change throughout the 3 months to meet you wherever you are and wherever you end up going.
Each month will start with a 1-hour Coaching Call.
This is also an opportunity to create goals and intentions for the coming month.
Over the course of the month the mentor will build and deliver resources, reading lists, and personalized encouragement to keep the momentum going.
Each week will start with an email check-in so questions can be answered as they arise and not have to wait.
At the end of each month, you have the chance to submit any work for review (up to 1500 words) and in return, receive detailed, kind, and constructive feedback.
The mentorship includes a total of:
3 hours of 1:1 Coaching Calls
3 months of tailor-made resources, reading lists and accountability for any goals set
12 (weekly) email check-ins to answer any questions as they arise
3 opportunities to submit 3 pieces of writing (or the chance to polish and shine one piece three times) with detailed and attentive feedback in return
WHO IS IT FOR?
Any writer, regardless of where they are at in their career who longs to connect frequently and directly with a mentor to receive support. Whether it’s to overcome blocks and doubts, create a more sustainable writing practice, or get a piece or collection published, expert guidance and support can make it possible and enjoyable.
How is it different than editorial support?
Editing is only one part of the writing practice. Many writers feel alone and overwhelmed in the writing process and long for ways to bolster confidence and commit to creative habits that lead to happy and productive writing lives. Through encouragement and guidance, a mentor can help you find your track and stay on it. The editorial component in the program is helpful even if publishing is not the goal, as an attentive reader can shine light on what is working well and where you can grow and stretch as an artist.
COST
The two best mentors I know of focus more on editorial feedback, but I wonder if MWI want
more coaching support and are not necessarily as publication driven?

Chelene Knight

Sliding scale (my experience is people often will pay at higher bracket)
Discount if MWI alumni? Or a discount on an upcoming workshop/event?
